Citric acid (13C3) is a tricarboxylic acid and an important intermediate of the TCA (or Krebs) cycle. Its 13C3 compound is commonly used as a standard in quantitative MS or MS/MS experiments, but also serves other purposes (e.g., chelating agent, flavoring and preservative in food and beverages).
