CIA is induced by chicken or bovine type II collagen in CFA, followed by a type II collagen booster 18 to 21 days later. The collagen booster is usually administered in IFA. Alternatively, the booster can be administered in CFA, resulting in faster CIA development and increased severity.
•Consistently induces arthritis in 90 to 100% of DBA/1 mice (Taconic DBA1BO)
When used with the recommended protocol, 90 to 100% of mice develop arthritis within 35 days of immunization. Most mice reach disease severity of 10 to 14 (on the scale 0 to 16).
Each lot is tested in vivo and individually adjusted to ensure consistent disease induction.
•Eliminate tedious preparation of emulsions
Properly prepared emulsions are critical for reliable induction of CIA. Our emulsions are carefully made and pre-filled into syringes, ready to use, to reduce time needed to set up experiments.
•Save time and mice in testing individual reagents
Lot-to-lot reagent variations can cause dramatic changes in severity of induced autoimmune disease. The consistent potency of pre-characterized Hooke Kits™ eliminates time-consuming testing.
•Reduce your mouse facility's exposure to pathogen contamination
Pre-filled syringes are prepared under aseptic conditions and delivered in sterilized plastic bags for easy disinfection before introduction into your mouse facility.
Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) is one of the most commonly used animal models of human rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Joint inflammation, which develops in animals with CIA, strongly resembles inflammation observed in patients with RA. Blocking tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is efficacious in treatment of CIA, just as it is a highly efficacious therapy in treatment of RA patients.
CIA is mediated by both T cells and antibodies (B cells). Macrophages are believed to play an important role in mediating tissue damage during disease development.
CIA is induced by immunization with type II collagen/CFA emulsion, followed 18 to 21 days later by collagen/IFA or collagen/CFA emulsion.
The Hooke Kit™ Chicken Collagen/CFA Emulsion is intended for mice of the DBA/1 strain, aged 7 to 9 weeks, and is supplied as a Type II collagen/CFA emulsion in syringes.
The Hooke Kit™ Chicken Collagen/IFA Emulsion is intended for mice of the DBA/1 strain, aged 7 to 9 weeks, and is supplied as a Type II collagen/IFA emulsion in syringes.
The Hooke Kit™ Bovine Collagen/CFA Emulsion is intended for mice of the DBA/12 strain, aged 7 to 9 weeks, and is supplied as a Type II collagen/CFA emulsion in syringes.
The Hooke Kit™ Bovine Collagen/IFA Emulsion is intended for mice of the DBA/12 strain, aged 7 to 9 weeks, and is supplied as a Type II collagen/IFA emulsion in syringes. Please contact us at for specific academic pricing.
