Carbazomycin B is the dominant analogue of a family of rare carbazoles initially isolated from an unidentified Streptomyces sp. by researchers at Hiroshima University in 1980. Carbazomycin B is a 5-lipoxygenase inhibitor and free radical scavenger. Carbazomycin B is active against range of Gram positive bacteria and is weakly active against fungi and yeast. Like all carbazomycins, carbazomycin B possesses a highly distinct UV spectrum and can be readily identified and dereplicated by HPLC DAD. The mode of action of carbazomycins has received little attention.
