Bleomycin is a mixture of anti-cancer antibiotics (bleomycin A2 and bleomycin B2) isolated from Streptomyces verticillus. Bleomycin binds to DNA and causes single and double strand breaks through an oxygen-radical-dependent mechanism and induces apoptosis due to DNA damage. It also inhibits incorporation of thymidine into DNA strands.
