Alpha-1-Acid Glycoprotein 1 (AGP1) is an acute-phase protein secreted by the liver and is a member of the calycin superfamily. The expression of AGP1 increases 5 to 50-fold fold upon inflammation, which is regulated by glucocorticoids, interleukin-1 and interleukin-6. AGP1 binds various ligands in the interior of its beta-barrel domain. It also binds synthetic drugs and influences their distribution and availability in the body.
