BcMag™ Hydroxyapatite-Modified Magnetic Particles are silica-coated superparamagnetic beads modified with Hydroxyapatite functional groups on the surface. The beads are extremely useful chromatomedium for quick purification and fractionation of a variety of biological substances, such as proteins and antibodies without the need for laborious repeat of pipetting and centrifugation. Hydroxyapatite has two different adsorbing sites; a calcium site that binds with the acidic groups and a phosphate site that interacts with basic protein groups. Thanks to the unique mixed-mode ion exchange characteristics, hydroxyapatite does not only have unique separation properties, unparalleled selectivity and resolution, but also have a very large binding capacity for proteins and antibodies. Furthermore, hydroxyapatite does not bind free amino acids or small peptides, making it advantageous for protein purification.
