NOS3 is a protein encoded by the NOS3 gene which is approximately 133, 2 kDa. NOS3 is localised to the cell membrane, Golgi apparatus and cytoplasm. It is involved in eNOS activation and regulation, activation of cAMP-dependent PKA, arginine biosynthesis and vascular smooth muscle contraction. It is a reactive free radical which acts as a biologic mediator in several processes, including neurotransmission and antimicrobial and antitumoral activities. Together with inducible nitric oxide synthase and neuronal nitric oxide synthase, it catalyses nitric oxide and L-citrulline generation from L-arginine and molecular oxygen. NOS3 is expressed in platelets, placenta, liver and kidney. Mutations in the NOS3 gene may result in Alzheimer disease and hypertension. STJ94539 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of NOS3 protein.
