Blood group Lewis carbohydrate determinants are oligosaccharides on glycolipids and glycoproteins.In healthy individuals the LewisY antigen is a type 2 antigen usually only expressed in low levels of a fewcell types such as some epithelial cells. Reportedly these antigens are aberrantly expressed in highlevels in many carcinomas. Anti-BG8, LewisY reactivity in immunohistochemistry is seen in carcinomasof the breast, lung, and colon.
