      • Overview
        • GRP78/Bip is a protein encoded by the HSPA5 gene which is approximately 72, 3 kDa. GRP78/Bip is localised to the endoplasmic reticulum lumen, melanosome and cytoplasm. It is involved in pathways such as the unfolded protein response, response to elevated platelet cytosolic Ca2+, cellular response to heat stress and mechanisms of CFTR activation. This protein falls under the heat shock protein 70 family. Its function is in facilitating the assembly of multimeric protein complexes inside the endoplasmic reticulum. It is involved in the correct folding of proteins and degradation of misfolded proteins via its interaction with DNAJC10. GRP78/Bip is expressed in the nervous system, liver, muscle, intestine and pancreas. Mutations in the HSPA5 gene may result in rheumatoid arthritis. STJ97526 was developed from clone 8G3. It was affinity-purified from mouse ascites by affinity-chromatography using specific immunogen. This mouse monoclonal antibody binds endogenous levels of GRP78/Bip.
