EFHD1 is a protein encoded by the EFHD1 gene which is approximately 26, 9 kDa. EFHD1 is localised to the mitochondrion inner membrane. This protein falls under the EF-hand super family of calcium binding proteins. It is involved in a variety of cellular processes including mitosis, synaptic transmission, and cytoskeletal rearrangement. It has been shown to associate with the mitochondrial inner membrane, and in HeLa cells it acts as a novel mitochondrial calcium ion sensor for mitochondrial flash activation. It may also play a role in neuronal differentiation. EFHD1 is expressed in the cells of the nervous system, eye, heart, liver and lung. STJ96987 was developed from clone 3G2 and was affinity-purified from mouse ascites by affinity-chromatography using specific immunogen. The antibody detects endogenous EFHD1 proteins.
