Clostridium difficile is an anaerobic Gram-positive bacterium that can cause hospital-acquired diarrhea, and is often associated with previous antibiotic use. Immunoassays detecting the C. difficile proteins glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), and toxins A and B, are used to diagnose C. difficile infection.
