Angiogenin (Ang) gene encodes a mediator of new blood vessel formation that hydrolyzes cellular tRNAs resulting in decreased protein synthesis and is similar to pancreatic ribonuclease. It interacts with DNA causing a promoter-like increase in the expression of rRNA. Angiogenic activity is regulated by interaction with RNH1 in vivo. Diseases associated with ANG include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis 9 and ang-related amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
