Aluminum telluride (Al2Te) is a semiconductor material with a direct bandgap, making it potentially useful for optoelectronic applications. It exhibits good optical absorption and emission properties, which can be exploited in the development of light-emitting diodes, photodetectors, and photovoltaic devices. The materials ability to form heterojunctions with other semiconductors allows for the engineering of novel device structures, such as tandem solar cells, where the complementary optical properties of different materials can be utilized. Additionally, the unique electronic and thermal transport characteristics of Al2Te may make it suitable for thermoelectric energy conversion applications. Al2Te thin films can be deposited using techniques like sputtering.
