Halogenated Nucleobases:

Brominated and iodinated nucleobases have potential application for crystallographic studies of oligonucleotide structures,1 as photo-cross linking groups or for introducing other functional groups replacing halogen with nucleophiles.2 It has been shown that 5-modified pyrimidines such as 5-Fluoro, 5-Bromo, 5-Iodo uridines and 5-Methyl cytidine capping increases nucleobase resistance from 7 to 12-fold compared unmodified oligonucleotides.3
