4-aminobenzoic acid, also known as para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), is an aminobenzoic acid whereby the amino group is para to the carboxy group. It plays a role as aplant growth regulator and an intermediate in the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid in a wide range of organisms such as bacteria and fungi. PABA is also a plant metabolite, an E.coli metabolite, and an allergen.
