The ViPrimePLUS Human Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Human Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 genome in clinical samples (e. g. nasopharyngeal swab and blood). Human parainfluenza virus is a group of 4 distinct serotypes RNA viruses which causes a spectrum of respiratory diseases, primarily in young children. Most children are infected by parainfluenza virus type 3 (PIV-3) by the age of 2 years and by parainfluenza virus types 1 and 2 (PIV-1 and -2) by the age of 5 years. PIV-4 is less detected because its infection is less severe, thus least characterized. HPIV-1 is mostly common associated with croup, being the main cause of hospitalization due to parainfluenza infections in children aged between 2-6 years old. HPIV-3 is second only to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as a cause of pneumonia and bronchiolitis in infants and young children. Reinfection may occur throughout the life, where elderly and immunocompromised patients could suffer from serious complications. Supportive care is necessary to treat the symptoms of the disease. No vaccines are currently available. ViPrimePLUS Human Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 RT-qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
