The ViPrimePLUS Human Metapneumovirus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Human Metapneumovirus genome in clinical samples (e. g. sputum, nasopharyngeal aspirate and throat swab). Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV) is a single negative-strand RNA virus that causes lower respiratory tract infection in human. It is classified into 2 major groups (i. e. A and B) and 4 subgroups. Following behind respiratory syncytial virus, hMPV is the second most commonly identified cause of pediatric lower respiratory illness. In a study, hMPV infection was found in 10% of the lung transplant recipients with acute respiratory tract infections, thus signifying the higher risk of severe hMPV illness in transplant patients.
