The ViPrimePLUS Human Herpes Virus 6 qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Human Herpes Virus 6 genome in clinical samples (e. g. blood, CSF, saliva and transplant sample). Human Herpes virus (HHV) is classified into 8 subtypes with each of them manifesting different disease implications. Human Herpes virus 6 (HHV6) is the cause of the common roseola infantum in children. It is a T-lymphotropic virus, infecting the CD4+ T-cells. Mode of transmission is via transfer of bodily fluids and transplant organs. There are 2 genetically distinct variants, i. e. HHV6A and HHV6B. Being a common early childhood infection, most children do not exhibit symptoms but minority will develop roseola infantum and febrile-induced seizures. Like any other herpes virus, infection with HHV6 is lifelong with relapses noted in 20-35% of healthy adults with mild fever or no symptoms. Complications posed to immunocompromised patients and transplant patients are more severe, causing hepatitis, encephalitis, myocarditis and myelosuppression which may lead to death. The viral DNA can be detected by nucleic acid amplification technique during active infection, thus making it a good screening tool. ViPrimePLUS Human Herpes Virus 6 qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
