Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) is a small secreted protein and a member of the neurotrophin family. NGF plays important roles in the growth, maintenance, and survival of certain target sympathetic and sensory neurons. NGF is expressed by inflammatory cells and affects changes that lead to increased neural responsiveness. NGF could be a pivotal inflammatory mediator in tissue injury and inflammation or pain.
