Thulium iron garnet is a rare-earth iron garnet material with interesting magnetic and optical properties. It exhibits strong Faraday rotation, which is the rotation of the plane of polarization of light in the presence of a magnetic field. This property makes Tm3Fe5O12 suitable for use in optical isolators, circulators, and other magneto-optical devices for applications in optical communication systems and signal processing. Additionally, the materials magnetic properties can be exploited in magnetic storage and microwave devices, such as microwave filters and phase shifters.
