T4 UvsY Protein is a Phage T4 recombinant regulatory protein that promotes homologous recombination performed by UvsX. When UvsX looks for homologous sequences, it needs to compete for binding sites with single-stranded DNA-binding proteins prebound to single-stranded DNA, and UvsY protein promotes this competition, which helps UvsX to bind to single-stranded DNA. T4 UvsY Protein enhances the activity of the DNA-dependent ATPase of UvsX Protein, reducing the minimum concentration required for the activity, thus promoting chain replacement. UvsY promotes the invasion of UvsX recombinase into ssDNA-single-stranded binding protein complex, resulting in the release of single-stranded binding protein, and thus the binding of UvsX to single-stranded DNA.
