Renin is a 37 kDa enzyme that consists of 345 amino acids. It belongs to the aspartic acid protease family and is a part of the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS) that controls blood pressure, renal blood flux, glomerular filtration, and sodium/potassium homeostasis. Renin has been investigated for its involvement in hyper tension, forms of Hyperaldosteronism, Hypokalemia, and kidney tumors.
