SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein (S protein) is a type I transmembrane protein that contains two subunits, S1 and S2. S1 helps recognize the host cell surface receptor with its receptor binding domain (RBD). Whereas S2 assist the membrane fusion of the virion and cellular membranes. Together, the S protein plays a key role in mediating the host infection and inducing the neutralizing-antibody and T-cell responses, as well as protective immunity.
