Insulin is a heterodimer of a B chain and an A chain linked by two disulfide bonds. It belongs to insulin family. Insulin is expressed in dorsal pancreas and 66 other tissues. Insulin decreases blood glucose concentration by increasing the cell permeability to monosaccharides, amino acids and fatty acids, and accelerating glycolysis, the pentose phosphate cycle, and glycogen synthesis in liver.
