Progesterone (2,2,3,6,6,17A,21,21,21-D9) is a deuterated form of progesterone, a steroid and sex hormone involved in reproductive biology, embryogenesis, and brain function. It is the major progestogen in the human body, and is a precursor to other sex hormones as well as corticosteroids. In a clinical setting, it is used as a medication in contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy.
