PPCS produced in E. Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 331 amino acids (1-311 a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 36.1kDa. PPCS is fused to a 20 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. Phosphopantothenate-cysteine ligase (PPCS) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of coenzyme A (CoA) from pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), which is a vital universal pathway in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. PPCS, being one of the last enzymes in this pathway, converts phosphopantothenate to phosphopantothenoylcysteine.
