Background
p-Chlorophenylalanine is a selective irreversible inhibitor of tryptophan hydroxylase. Tryptophan hydroxylase is the rate-limiting enzyme in the synthesis of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine). p-Chlorophenylalanine can deplete endogenous serotonin levels.
p-Chlorophenylalanine significantly attenuates pulmonary vascular remodeling and lung inflammation induced by MCT (Wild Lily), inhibits Tph-1 and SERT, MMP-2/ -9, TIMP-1/-2. Expression of IL-1β, TNF-α, ICAM-1. p-Chlorophenylalanine inhibits 5-HT by inhibiting Tph-1, regulating SERT and serotonin downstream signaling pathways.
