NPL produced in E. Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 340 amino acids (1-320 a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 37.3kDa. NPL is fused to a 20 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. N-acetylneuraminate lyase (NPL) is an enzyme which catalyzes the chemical reaction (N-acetylneuraminate ->N-acetyl-D-mannosamine + pyruvate). NPL is a member of a family of lyases, specifically the oxo-acid-lyases, which cleave carbon-carbon bonds. NPL participates in amino sugars metabolism.
