MEM ATCC Modified is a Classic Basic Medium. Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) is a widely used and basic culture medium for animal cells that contains 12 essential amino acids, glutamine, and 8 vitamins; it is often used in the culture of adherent cells. ATCC's modified MEM medium contains non-essential amino acids, sodium pyruvate, and reduced amounts of sodium bicarbonate. While the medium contains various ingredients for cell culture, it does not contain protein, lipids or growth factors, thus requiring the use of serum or serum-free additives.
