Lipoprotein Lipase (LPL) is an enzyme that breaks down triglycerides into fatty acids (FA) to be used as energy or stored.
The FAs are carried away by two different lipoproteins:
chylomicrons (carry FAs from the intestine to the blood) and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL-carry FAs from the liver to the bloodstream). Deficiency or dysfunction of LPL is observed in individuals with hyperlipidemia of types I, IV and V.Please contact us at for specific academic pricing.
