Hams F-12 Powder is a Classic Basic Medium.
Ham's F-12 Nutrient Mix was developed in 1969 by Ham as an improvement on the original F-10 Nutrient Mixture. It is a widely used medium for serum-free cell culture, well suited for single-cell and clonal cultures at low serum concentrations, and also for the culture of cancer cells, primary cells, and other cells when serum is added. It is composed of amino acids, vitamins, inorganic salts, and other components, but does not contain proteins, lipids, or growth factors. Therefore, it must be used in combination with serum or serum-free additives. DMEM/F12 medium, which is a combination of Ham's F-12 and DMEM, is a more nutrient-rich medium that is also widely used.
