Cerium oxide (CeO2), also known as ceria, is a wide-bandgap semiconductor material with excellent optical, electrical, and catalytic properties. It has a high refractive index, good optical transparency, and the ability to switch between different oxidation states, making it useful in optical coatings, fuel cells, and catalytic applications. CeO2 thin films can be deposited using techniques like sputtering or chemical vapor deposition, allowing for their integration into various electronic and optoelectronic devices. The materials unique oxygen storage and release capabilities, as well as its ability to act as an oxygen buffer, enable its use in applications such as gas sensors, protective coatings, and catalysts for environmental remediation.
