Boron nitride machinable ceramic is a unique material that demonstrates exceptional thermal stability at high temperatures, high electrical insulation, and superb chemical resistance as it reacts with few substances. It possesses excellent machinability, allowing for precise shaping and intricate geometries even for complex crucible designs. With a low coefficient of friction, boron nitride ceramic machines easily and is ideal for applications requiring lubricated interfaces. The material also effectively conducts heat while exhibiting low dielectric losses, enabling it to efficiently dissipate heat as an electrical insulator from dense components. These properties including thermal conductivity, electrical insulation and corrosion resistance support boron nitride ceramic's diverse applications in various demanding industries like electronics, aerospace and transportation that utilize it for applications involving thermal management, insulation for crucibles, and corrosion resistance where high-performing engineering materials are necessary.
To produce hexagonal boron nitride (HBN), boron nitride powder/flake is sintered into a solid material. The maximum size of the material is determined by the power and dimensions of the hot pressing equipment. Despite its softness, hot-pressed boron nitride can be machined into any custom shape as long as it's smaller than the raw material block we supply. Given the high price of raw material (BN solid) at over $20/inch3, simple shaped products such as crucibles may have their prices estimated based on the amount of BN solid used.
HBN and HBT are originally a product code for Momentive Performance Materials and represents for the calcium enhanced boron nitride material. Amerigo Scientific is also providing calcium borate enhanced boron nitride with similar performance compared with HBN, and thermally purified HBT. Although calcium (or zirconium) enhanced HBN (or ZSBN) are the most common composite boron nitride material, we also produce a series of other composite boron nitride, such as AlN-BN, SiC-BN.Please contact us at for specific academic pricing.
