IRF-3 is a protein encoded by the IRF3 gene which is approximately 47, 2 kDa. IRF-3 is localised to the cytoplasm and nucleus. It is involved in activated TLR4 signalling and toll-like receptor signalling pathway. This protein falls under the interferon regulatory transcription factor family. It is found in an inactive form in the cytoplasm that upon serine/threonine phosphorylation forms a complex with CREBBP. This complex is then translocated to the nucleus where it activates the transcription of interferons alpha and beta, as well as other interferon-induced genes. IRF-3 is expressed constitutively in a variety of tissues. Mutations in the IRF3 gene may be involved in herpes simplex encephalitis. STJ91040 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This primary antibody specifically binds to endogenous IRF-3 protein which only binds about S385 when S385 is phosphorylated.
