GSK3 alpha/ beta is a protein encoded by the GSK3A gene which is approximately 50, 9 kDa. GSK3 alpha/ beta is localised to the mitochondrion. It is involved in the common cytokine receptor gamma-chain family signalling pathways, RET signalling and activation of cAMP-dependent PKA. It is a multifunctional Ser/Thr protein kinase that is implicated in the control of several regulatory proteins including glycogen synthase, and transcription factors, such as JUN. It also acts as a negative regulator in the hormonal control of glucose homeostasis. GSK3 alpha/ beta is expressed in the nervous system, liver, eye, pancreas and muscle. Mutations in the GSK3A gene may result in Alzheimer disease. STJ90283 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This primary antibody specifically binds to endogenous GSK3 alpha/ beta protein which only binds about Y279/216 when Y279/216 is phosphorylated.
