The gene coding for p53 oncoprotein is located on chromosome 17p. Allele loss at this hromosome sitehas frequently been seen in many tumours including lung, colon, breast and brain. Expression of p53oncoprotein was not detected in normal mucosa, whereas mutation results in a detectable expressionof the p53 protein. It is therefore suggested that immunocytochemical detection of p53 protein is anindication for malignancy.Immunogen: human recombinant p53 protein
