Cytokeratin 19 is a protein encoded by the KRT19 gene which is approximately 44, 1 kDa. Cytokeratin 19 is localised to the cytosol. It is involved in cytoskeletal signalling, developmental biology and keratinization. This protein falls under the keratin family and consists of acidic proteins which are arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains. It plays a role in the organization of myofibers and together with KRT8, helps to link the contractile apparatus to dystrophin at the costameres of striated muscle. Cytokeratin 19 is expressed in basal keratinocytes in the deep outer root sheath of hair follicles. Mutations in the KRT19 gene may result in lung cancer and thyroid cancer. STJ92634 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of Cytokeratin 19 protein.
