Reacts with a 59 kD glycoprotein specific for the CD4 antigen, which functions as a receptorfor MHC class II and for HIV. The antigen is characteristic for helper T-cells. The specificity wasconfirmed by testing with CD4 cDNA transfected cells, with purified CD4 antigen and competitionstudies with other CD4 antibodies.CD4 is a co-receptor involved in immune response (co-receptor activity in binding to MHC class IImolecules) and HIV infection (human immunodeficiency virus; CD4 is primary receptor for HIV-1surface glycoprotein gp120). CD4 regulates T-cell activation, T/B-cell adhesion, T-cell differentiation, T-cell selection and signal transduction.Immunogen: Human thymocytes and T lymphocytes.
