BMP-2 is a protein encoded by the BMP2 gene which is approximately 44, 7 kDa. BMP-2 is secreted into the extracellular space. It is involved in apoptotic pathways, PEDF induced signalling, the GPCR pathway and ERK signalling. This protein is a secreted ligand of the TGF-beta superfamily of proteins. It binds various TGF-beta receptors leading to recruitment and activation of SMAD family transcription factors that regulate gene expression. It is proteolytically processed to generate each subunit of the disulfide-linked homodimer, which plays a role in bone and cartilage development. BMP-2 is expressed in the bone, muscle, bone marrow, nervous system and lung. Mutations in the BMP2 gene may result in Cauda Equina syndrome. STJ97346 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This polyclonal antibody detects endogenous levels of BMP-2 protein.
