          Background

2'-Deoxyguanosine (also known as deoxyguanosine) consists of a purine nucleobase guanine connected by its N9 nitrogen to the C1 carbon of a deoxyribose. 2'-Deoxyguanosine is widely present in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans. 2'-Deoxyguanosine can be biosynthesized from 2'-deoxyguanosine 5'-monophosphate via catalysis of the cytosolic purine 5'-nucleotidase, or converted into 2'-deoxyguanosine 5'-monophosphate via catalysis of the deoxyguanosine kinase. 2'-Deoxyguanosine is one of the four deoxyribonucleosides that make up DNA, and it is involved in a number of enzymatic reactions in humans. In addition, 2'-deoxyguanosine is associated with the metabolic disorder called the purine nucleoside phosphorylase deficiency pathway.
