Validamycin A is an antifungal aminoglycoside antibiotic. The major validamycin is produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus and widely used for the control of sheath blight of rice. It acts as an alpha,alpha-trehalose phosphorylase inhibitor and an alpha,alpha-trehalase inhibitor. It also shows a strong tyrosinase inhibition activity in a dose-dependent manner, (with half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 19.23 ± 0.26 mmol/L).
