Naturally produced by fungi, ternatin is a cyclic peptide with potential use in medicine due to its ability to kill mammalian cells. Ternatin has been shown to bind a protein complex formed by the elongation factor-1A (eEF1A) protein. Ternatin 4 has been suggested for use in the treatment of COVID 19 by preventing the insertion in the host membrane and the production of viral particles.
