Lutetium is a rare-earth element with a silvery-white appearance. It has the highest density among the rare-earth elements and exhibits good thermal and electrical conductivity. Lutetium is used in high-refractive-index optical materials, such as lutetium aluminum garnet (LuAG), which finds applications in scintillators for medical imaging and radiation detection. Lutetium-based compounds are also explored for their potential in thin-film electroluminescent devices.
