HFE Human Recombinant produced in E. Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 308 amino acids (23-306 a.a) and having a molecular mass of 35.7kDa. HFE is fused to a 24 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. Hemochromatosis (HFE) is a member of the MHC class I family. The Hemochromatosis protein contains 1 Ig-like C1-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain. HFE is a membrane protein, which is similar to MHC class I-type proteins and associates with beta-2 microglobulin (beta2M). It is assumed that the HFE protein acts to regulate iron absorption by regulating the interaction of the transferrin receptor (TFR) with transferrin. HFE binds to transferrin receptor (TFR) and reduces its affinity for iron-loaded transferrin.
