Background
GATA binding protein 3 (GATA3) is a member of the GATA family of transcription factors (including six members: GATA-1 to GATA-6). It plays an important role in promoting and guiding cell proliferation, development and differentiation in many tissues and cell types. GATA-3 is widely expressed in the epithelial cells of mammary duct glandular cavity and urinary tract epithelium, but not in myoepithelial cells. The expression of GATA-3 is closely associated with the expression of estrogen receptor-α in breast cancer, and there is evidence that GATA-3 can be used to predict the response to hormone therapy in breast cancer patients, and has also been shown to be a new marker for bladder cancer.
