      • Overview
        • Proteinase K is an enzyme (nonspecific serine protease) isolated from Tritirachium album and used for inactivating RNases and DNases in high molecular weight nucleic acids preparation. It exhibits broad cleavage specificity and cleaves at the carboxylic acid side of aliphatic, aromatic, or hydrophobic amino acids.Proteinase K cannot be inactivated by chelating reagents such as EDTA or detergents such as SDS and is active over a wide range of pH (4-12.5). However, heating to 95°C for 10 minutes or using an inhibitor such as PMSF, AEBSF or DFP can inactivate Proteinase K.Proteinase K solution is ready to use pre-made aliquot with the concentration of 20 mg/mL to use conveniently and avoid human error.
