    Background
    
    The exact mechanism of thalidomide is unknown, however it has been shown to inhibit TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10 and IL-12 production while enhancing the production of IL-2, IL-4 and IL-5. It also effects natural killer cell toxicity and stimulates T lymphocytes.
