Full Name: Human leukocyte antigen A
BACKGROUND: HLA-A2 (Human Leukocyte Antigen-A2) is one of the most common and well-studied alleles of the HLA-A gene, which is part of the MHC class I family. HLA-A2 molecules present endogenous antigens (from inside the cell) to cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), playing a critical role in the immune surveillance of viral infections and cancer.
