Introduction

L1 is the major capsid protein of HPV, and like other HPV types, it plays a crucial role in the virus's ability to infect host cells.
The L1 protein forms the outer shell (capsid) of the virus, providing structure and protection for the viral genome. L1 is responsible for the binding of the virus to the surface receptors on human epithelial cells, initiating infection. After infection, the L1 protein also helps in virion formation for new virus particles.
