Introduction

Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) glycoprotein H (gH) is a critical envelope protein involved in the virus's ability to infect host cells. EBV is a member of the Herpesviridae family and is best known for causing infectious mononucleosis and being associated with several cancers, such as Burkitt's lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. gH is a component of the viral envelope glycoprotein complex that mediates the fusion of the virus with host cell membranes. It does not function alone but forms a complex with other glycoproteins, particularly gL (glycoprotein L) and gB (glycoprotein B). The gH/gL complex interacts with host cell receptors and facilitates the activation of gB, which directly mediates the fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane.
